Gentle Chair Yoga Practice
Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support. The Poses, or Asanas, are often adaptations of Hatha yoga poses. Chair yoga offers the student modifications of a traditional yoga practice for participants who have physical limitations, due to injuries or age. However, Chair yoga is a great practice for everyone, as it improves posture, balance, deepens flexibility, and creates personal body awareness; It is also a great way to achieve physical and mental fitness, strengthening the body and sharpening the mind. Chair yoga helps relieve the symptoms of many health issues including hypertension (high blood pressure), anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, vertigo (medical), multiple sclerosis, Osteoporosis, Osteopenia, carpal tunnel syndrome, clinical depression, and chronic pain. In this gentle chair yoga practice we will invite breath and movement to the body, focusing on spinal movements and gentle stretches for hands and feet. This practice is recommended to anyone looking to improve posture and flexibility and to anyone recovering from an injury, anyone who needs help to treat or prevent arthritis, anyone looking to develop more breath and body awareness and invite movement into their lifestyle, and to anyone who has the difficulty of getting down or up off the floor. Be aware of any limitations you might have and always stay within your range of motion. Consult with your physician before starting this or any other practice.
